MISSION AND VISION

  • The mission of Project neXt is to fan into flames the God-given gifts of the next generation so they are prepared to carry forth the torch of the Gospel of the saving grace of Jesus.

  • We believe Christian education focused on providing a biblical worldview is essential to ensure the next generation will continue the work of multiplying (X) God’s kingdom.

  • Project neXt  seeks to provide financial assistance to devoted, gifted and Spirit-filled young people who are prepared to devote their lives to the cause of Christ.

VALUE STATEMENTS

  • We believe Jesus Christ is the Messiah – the Savior of the world. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

  • We believe the bible is the inspired Word of God. We believe it is inerrant, infallible, and timeless.

  • We believe bible-based education is good for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that God’s servants will be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (1 Timothy 2:16)

  • We believe training in godliness holds promise for the present life and the life to come.

  • We believe we are to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness.

  • We believe it is our responsibility to commend the next generation to God and to the Word of His grace.

THE INSPIRATION

To truly understand the mission and vision for Project neXt , one needs to explore the life and legacy of the individual who is its source of inspiration, the Apostle Paul.

Perhaps there is no person, other than Jesus himself, who shaped the history of Christianity like the Apostle Paul. Paul was a Jew, a Pharisee, a good Pharisee. He was well trained and knew the bible and he sincerely believed the Christian movement of his time was a dangerous threat to Judaism. Paul hated the Christian faith and he persecuted Christians until he encountered Jesus on the road to Damascus. Paul placed his faith in Jesus and his life was never again the same. After his radical conversion, Paul dedicated his life to carrying forth the torch of the gospel of the saving grace of Jesus. Paul’s God-given mission was “to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness.” (Titus 1) Paul carried out this mission through numerous trips across the Roman Empire where he preached the Gospel and planted churches. Paul is also credited with the God-inspired writing of thirteen books of the bible in the New Testament.

After thirty years on mission Paul realized his life was coming to an end and he knew he needed to pass the torch of the gospel to the next generation. The final three books (epistles) that Paul wrote were First and Second Timothy and Titus. These letters were written to young pastors who would tend the flame of faith long after his death.

His final letter, 2 Timothy, was written to Timothy, his son in the faith. The letter was written literally from the bowels of prison – a dungeon cell. He knew his life was coming to an end. From death row he writes “For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near.” And he has no regrets, he knows he has faithfully carried out his God-given mission “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4: 6-7) In this final letter he charges his protégé Timothy as a dying captain would charge his lieutenant.

The inspiration for Project
neXt can be found in what Paul saw in Timothy and what he trusted – what he charged – him to do.

What Paul saw in Timothy:

  • A depth of understanding that resulted from being raised by a Christian mother and grandmother.

  • Someone who had proved himself in the work of the gospel.

  • Someone who had been set apart for God’s service. A devoted, gifted and Spirit-filled person who was prepared to devote his life to the cause of Christ.

  • Someone Paul was confident would look out not for his own interest but was burdened for the interests of Jesus Christ and His gospel.

What Paul charged Timothy to do:

  • To be faithful to his calling and gifts. He was to fan into flame his God-given gifts.

  • To continue in what he learned and became convinced of.

  • To spread the Word of God.

  • To stand up for the truth and to guard his own soul from the errors of the world.

  • To fight the battle well, holding on to his faith and a good conscience.

  • To present himself as one approved who correctly handles the word of truth.

  • To set an example for believers in speech, in conduct, in love, and in purity.

  • To guard what was entrusted in his care until he, too, passed it to the next generation.

Paul’s legacy was to pass the torch of the gospel to Timothy who by receiving it was to continue teaching, evangelizing, and inspiring others to advance the cause of Christ. Timothy was the link between Paul and the next generation of Christians.

Project
Next is the link between us and the next generation of Christians. If the Gospel, the truth, is not properly taught to the next generation, Christianity, will rapidly lose it power to influence the world and to multiply God’s kingdom.

OVERVIEW

While most churches have selected funds established to enable giving in areas such as general budget, missions, local outreach, building expansion, and plant churches; they don’t have a fund to enable giving to support Christian education for the next generation. The types of activities the Project neXt would supports include providing tuition assistance for primary education and scholarships to recognize leadership excellence and encourage further
development in secondary schools. The purpose of this plan is to encourage churches to establish and encourage giving to such a fund.

While we believe the need for a Project
neXt exists in every church, we believe we should think globally but start locally – right here at Calvary Church in Clearwater, Florida. There are so many reasons why Calvary is an ideal proving ground for such a fund. Here are just a few:

  • Calvary has always assumed the vanguard position in defending the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

  • Calvary is an established leader in establishing programs that other church bodies seek to emulate.

  • Calvary is committed to multiplying its impact through its Vision for Life, "X150" program established in 2016.

  • Calvary has a Christian High School (CCHS) that provides a challenging college preparatory education that equips the next generation to carry forth the Gospel of the saving grace of Jesus.

  • A targeted goal for Vision for Life, X150 is to have 150 future leaders from CCHS and the student ministry called into vocational ministry over the next decade. This substantiates Calvary’s generation to generation commitment.
